God Is Doing A New Thing

Isaiah 43:14-19 records God's message through the prophet Isaiah to the children of Israel in captivity. Their disobedience had put them in the position of being disciplined for their rebellion against God. The Babylonian nation had taken them into captivity, and God, through Isaiah, was sending them a message of encouragement and hope. He told them that He was already in the process of their redemption, their deliverance, that He was going to do a new thing in the life of the nation that would meet their needs. There is a tendency in human nature to expect things to always be like it has always been. Even a cursory look at human history or even our own past would teach us that things seldom stay the same for very long, but a look at God's Word reminds us that God is in the business of doing something new. When the children of Israel were delivered from Egypt, God did the miracle of deliverance through the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea. Then, when His nation had passed through the sea on dry land, they were pursued by the Egyptian Army. God delivered them from the army by allowing the water to close in over the army of Egypt and destroying that army. God promises them in Isaiah 43 that He would deliver them, but also warns them that it wouldn't be in the same way again. This time, there would be no Red Sea, there would be no defeat of the enemy. In fact, this time they would have to go through the entirety of the 40-year banishment in the wilderness. This meant that the adult generation that went into captivity would have to die in exile from the land. God's Word, however, is never dependent on one person or one group of people. God's will fulfill His Word when He chooses to do so. One thing that we must remember. God is always doing a new thing. It is from Him. It is dependent on His power, His authority, and it will be accomplished according to His will and His plan. Be encouraged. No matter how things look to the human eye and mind. God is always at work. You can trust Him.

Blessings,

Pastor Hal
